Dear colleagues,

At the University of Amsterdam there is an open Post-doc position for a
molecular biologist RNA Biology:

*Post-doc RNA Biology*

*Faculty of Science - Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS)*

Publication date

27 January 2015

Educational level

PhD

Salary indication

€2,997 to €4,551 gross per month (Post-doc scale 10/11)

Closing date

24 February 2015

Working hours

32 to 38 hours per week

Vacancy number

15-022

The _Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS)
<http://sils.uva.nl/>_is one of the _Faculty of Science’s
<http://www.uva.nl/en/about-the-uva/organisation/faculties/faculties/faculties/content/folder/faculteit-der-natuurwetenschappen-wiskunde-en-informatica/faculty-of-science.html>_largest
institutes. Its approximately 250 scientists and staff members work in
15 research groups that perform excellent research centered on three
themes: Cell & Systems Biology; Neurosciences, and Molecular Life Sciences.

The _RNA Biology & Applied Bioinformatics
<http://www.rnabiology.nl/>_(RB&AB) research group at SILS is tightly
associated with the established _MAD: Dutch Genomics Service & Support
Provider <http://www.dutchgenomics.nl/>_, as well as with the new _Green
Student Lab <http://www.greenstudentlab.nl/>_. The RB&AB/MAD has a
long-standing expertise in advanced transcriptomics analysis. Next to
the well-established microarray technology, we have our own
next-generation sequencing platform (IonProton). Also the required ICT
infrastructure and bioinformatics environment has been set-up. With an
enthusiastic multidisciplinary team of 17 specialists we aim to
understand transcriptome dynamics plus the role of RNA as a carrier of
genetic information. As such, we have a keen interest in so-called
‘non-coding RNA’, ‘maternal RNA’, and ‘cell-free RNA’. In the Green
Student Lab we educate students in collaboration with plant-breeding
companies on their genomics and bioinformatics projects.

In the context of this challenging combination of research and
education, we are seeking a Post-doc RNA Biology.

*Project Description *

The RB&AB/MAD offers a unique starting point for an exciting mixture of
established and innovative genomics experimentation and RNA biology
research for both our own research and that of students. The experiments
concern fundamental transcriptome research on for instance the role of
maternal RNA in (Zebrafish) embryogenesis, or transmission of genetic
information via cell-free RNA in plant sap. The applied research
independently done by students of the Green Student Lab is primarily
based on project ideas from associated plant-breeding companies.

The post-doc will play a key role in the RB&AB RNA biology research and
supervision of the Green Student Lab. He/she will be embedded in and
supported by the whole RB&AB/MAD wet-lab and dry-lab team.

*Requirements
*PhD in molecular biology;
Experience in omics research;
Interest in RNA biology;
Affinity with and experience in teaching;
Good communicative and organizational skills.

*Appointment *

The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a period of two years.
Based on a full-time appointment (38 hours per week) the gross monthly
salary will range from €2,977 to €4,551 (scale 10 or 11) depending on
expertise and previous experience. The Collective Employment Agreement
of the Dutch Universities is applicable.

*Job Application *

To save paper and the environment, applications may only be submitted by
e-mail. To process your application immediately, please quote the
vacancy number 15-022 and the position you are applying for in the
subject-line.

Applications must include a curriculum vitae, including a list of
publications, and an (informal) letter of motivation, which should be
grouped in one PDF attachment.

Applications will be accepted until 24 February 2015.
