The disease is caused by <i>Pyricularia oryzae</i> (<i>Magnaporthe oryzae</i>), a pathogenic fungus. <i>P. oryzae</i> has many secondary metabolism genes but the </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 12pt; margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 9pt; font-family: verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">most secondary metabolites are scarcely produced or not produced under laboratory conditions.
