MIC is the main event focusing on the progress of the area of metaheuristics and their applications. As in previous editions, MIC'2015 will provide an opportunity to the international research community in metaheuristics to discuss recent research results, to develop new ideas and collaborations, and to meet old friends and make new ones in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. MIC'2015 welcomes presentations that cover any aspects of metaheuristic research such as new algorithmic developments, high-impact applications, new research challenges, theoretical developments, implementation issues, and in-depth experimental studies. MIC'2015 strives for a high-quality program that will be completed by a number of invited talks, tutorials, workshops and special sessions. Relevant Research Areas ======================== MIC'2015 solicits contributions dealing with any aspect of metaheuristics. Typical, but not exclusive, topics of interest are: + Metaheuristic techniques such as tabu search, simulated annealing, iterated local search, variable neighborhood search, memory-based optimization, dynamic local search, evolutionary algorithms, memetic algorithms, ant colony optimization, variable neighborhood search, particle swarm optimization, scatter search, path relinking, etc. + Techniques that enhance the usability and increase the potential of metaheuristic algorithms such as reactive search mechanisms for self-tuning, offline metaheuristic algorithm configuration techniques, algorithm portfolios, parallelization of metaheuristic algorithms, etc. + Empirical and theoretical research in metaheuristics including large-scale experimental analyses, algorithm comparisons, new experimental methodologies, engineering methodologies for metaheuristic algorithms, search space analysis, theoretical insights into properties of metaheuristic algorithms, etc. + High-impact applications of metaheuristics in fields such as bioinformatics, electrical and mechanical engineering, telecommunications, sustainability, business, scheduling and timetabling. Particularly welcome are innovative applications of metaheuristic algorithms that have a potential of pushing research frontiers. + Contributions on the combination of metaheuristic techniques with those from other areas, such as integer programming, constraint programming, machine learning, etc. + Challenging applications areas such as continuous, mixed discrete-continuous, multi-objective, stochastic, or dynamic problems. If you want to undertake further doctoral research and training as part of an international and highly inter-disciplinary team, combining a unique and ambitious theoretical, field, hands-on training and research, then ALFF is the programme for you. ALFF: The ALgal microbiome - Friends or Foes Algal aquaculture is developing exponentially worldwide, with multiple applications in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Current research in algal biotechnology mostly focuses on metabolite discovery, aquaculture yield improvement and engineering bottle-necks. However, agronomical experience shows that controlling the interaction of land crops with mutualistic or pathogenic microbes is critical to successful production. Likewise, controlling the microbial flora associated with algae (the 'algal microbiome') is emerging as the biggest biological challenge for their increased usage. Bacteria can control the morphogenesis of algae, while others are indispensable to algal survival. Pathogens are causing devastating diseases, the impact of which worsens with the intensification of aquaculture practices. ALFF aims to achieve a scientific step-change in our understanding of algal-microbial interactions, whilst also leading to the development of superior mass algal cultivation and biocontrol strategies. Scientific excellence, creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation ALFF is funded under the prestigious EU Marie Sklodowska-Curie Initial Training Networks (ITN) programme and is specifically designed to train students in research and algal biotechnology. We offer highly interdisciplinary and international training for 15 PhD students throughout the EU, with a highly competitive salary and close contacts with the industry, government agencies and leading laboratories. In addition to conducting research, students will be enrolled on an extensive programme of short courses, conferences and secondments at other institutions. In the Green Student Lab we educate students in collaboration with plant-breeding companies on their genomics and bioinformatics projects. In the context of this challenging combination of research and education, we are seeking a Post-doc RNA Biology. *Project Description * The RB&AB/MAD offers a unique starting point for an exciting mixture of established and innovative genomics experimentation and RNA biology research for both our own research and that of students. Dear all, There is an exciting position vacant for a postdoc in bacteria genomics and metagenomics at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp: Postdoctoral scientist in bacteria genomics Department of Biomedical Sciences - Unit of Diagnostic Bacteriology The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) is internationally recognized as a center of excellence for education, research and service delivery in the field of tropical medicine. The Unit of Diagnostic Bacteriology at the Department of Biomedical Sciences is developing and validating innovative diagnostic tests for tropical bacterial infections. We recently launched several new projects in which we use metagenomics and genomics to identify and study pathogens in clinical samples. To support these activities and to develop new projects, we are looking for a postdoctoral scientist in genomics data analysis. Assignment: * Coordinate the bioinformatics activities at the Diagnostic Bacteriology Unit. * Develop and validate a metagenomics approach to identify bacteria in clinical samples. * Develop the data analysis for a study on whole genome sequencing of Salmonella isolates. * Assist in the data analysis of genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics projects in the unit. * Develop your own research lines and apply for competitive grants. * Coach MSc and PhD students.
