Applications are invited for a highly motivated, ambitious and enthusiastic postdoctoral bioinformatician/computational research scientist to join an existing research group led by Professor Anne Goriely at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. The post is available as part of a 5-year Wellcome funded Investigator Award that aims to study de novo mutations and their impact on disease, genome biology and evolution through a multi-disciplinary approach. You will have a PhD/DPhil in (or equivalent research experience) in molecular genetics, statistics, bioinformatics or another science/mathematics related discipline. A sound knowledge of genetics, genomics and/or population genetics, including genomics resources, mutation databases and next generation sequencing technologies is essential. You will have substantial experience in the use of a scripting language (Perl or Python) for managing data and experience with one or more statistical or mathematical programming languages (R/Bioconductor or Matlab). A high level of commitment to work, with the ability to work both independently and largely unsupervised and co-operatively as a team member with senior and junior colleagues are essential. The position is available full-time and is fixed-term for 5 years funded by a Wellcome grant.
