Thank you, Kind regards, Kris Doctoral Grant biomolecular data mining The biodata mining team (ADReM / biomina) aims to remove important limitations in the interpretation of big molecular data with cutting-edge data mining technologies. In this project we will study new pattern-mining algorithms to incorporate contextual biomolecular information in approaches to discover patterns that are novel, interesting and unexpected. Job description • You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of biomolecular data mining. • You publish scientific articles related to the research project of the assignment. • You contribute to teaching and research in biomedical data mining and bioinformatics in the Faculties of Sciences and Biomedicine. Profile and requirements • You hold a master degree in computer science, mathematics, (bio)statistics, bioinformatics; or life sciences (if you are computationally strong). • You can submit outstanding academic results. • Students in the final year of their degree can also apply. • Foreign candidates are encouraged to apply. • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy. • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative. • You have strong programming, data analysis and computational skills: data mining, machine learning, univariate/multivariate/bayesian statistics, …. You are interested in complex life science challenges. Knowledge of molecular biology or bioinformatics is useful but not necessary. You are enthusiastic about multi-disciplinary collaborations and eager to think outside the box. You have excellent (English) communication skills. We offer • a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a further two-year period after positive evaluation; • the start date of scholarship will be 1 October, 1 November or 1 December 2016 or 1 January 2017; • a gross monthly grant ranging from € 2.189,88 - € 2.334,46; • a dynamic and stimulating work environment.
