Scientist permanent position open in bioinformatics for the comparison of microbial genomes at INRAE - MaIAGE research unit (Paris-Saclay University)

Dear colleagues The StatInfOmics <https://maiage.mathnum.inrae.fr/en/statinfomics> team of the MaIAGE <https://maiage.mathnum.inrae.fr/en> unit, INRAE France is recruiting a researcher in bioinformatics and microbial comparative genomics. Don’t hesitate to disseminate this information broadly to anyone who might be interested in this permanent position. Especially if you have any national or European bioinformatics mailing list, please feel free to forward. You will find more details following this message. Thanks in advance for your help Kind regards Hélène Chiapello & Pierre Nicolas Information on the profile and the missions The profile and recruitment modalities are described on the INRAE website here <https://jobs.inrae.fr/en/open-competitions/open-competitions-research-scientists-job-profiles-crcn/cr-2023-mica-2>. The missions of the recruited scientist will be to (i) design innovative approaches for the construction, analysis, and representation of bacterial pan-genomes (ii) valorize these methodological developments by analyses of (meta)genomic datasets focused on bacterial taxa of interest. The approaches developed will allow the setting up of strategic interdisciplinary projects for the Microbiology and Food Chain Department and INRAE and the dissemination to other units of the department in order to address finalized questions. This could involve identifying and understanding the evolution of genomic determinants of the pathogenicity of opportunistic bacteria, the fermentative or aromatic potential of bacteria of food interest, or antibiotic resistance in an ecosystem or a bacterial taxon. Training and skills required A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or genomics/comparative genomics is desired. The skills required are those of a bioinformatics researcher with expertise in genomics and/or comparative genomics: NGS data processing, algorithms (especially related to graphs), phylogenomic methods, population genomics concepts, correlation studies (GWAS, co-evolution). Mastery of at least one programming language (e.g. Python or R) and basic statistical approaches is expected. Fluency in English is desirable as well as a long term international experience: laureates who have not yet had such experience will be strongly encouraged to carry out a stay abroad co-constructed with the host team within 3 years after the internship year. For more information on the position, please contact Hélène Chiapello (helene.chiapello@inrae.fr <mailto:helene.chiapello@inrae.fr>). Applications must be submitted by March 2, 2023.
