vacancy for a PhD fellowship: network-analysis for precision oncology

I would like to post the vacancy for a PhD fellowship: network-analysis for precision oncology. Thanks for handling this posting. Regards Kathleen *PhD fellowship network-analysis for precision oncology * IDLab/IMEC (Dataintegration & Biological networks subgroup, UGent) has an open position for a PhD fellowship (4 years) in the domain of precision oncology. The goal of the PhD research is to develop and apply data analytics to study the evolution of metastatic cancer in order to identify prognostic biomarkers. Hereto innovative methods need to be developed that integrate genomic information derived from cohorts of tumor samples with clinical information (e.g., therapy outcome). The focus will be on studying the added value of graph based-analysis for feature extraction and patient stratification. The research will be performed in close collaboration with clinicians, experts in molecular diagnosis and software engineers to facilitate the transfer of the developed methods to a clinical setting. *Requirements* •You hold a Master degree in Bioinformatics, Informatics, Mathematics, Engineering, Bioscience engineering, or an equivalent degree. Last year students can also apply •A strong interest in interdisciplinary research •Interest/knowledge of computer science and/or machine learning •Interest in biology or molecular biology •Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R and/or C++ as well as Linux systems. •Fluency in spoken and written English *More information* The ‘Dataintegration & Biological networks’ group headed by K. Marchal is located at the engineering faculty of Ghent University (IDLab/IMEC). The group’s research focus is on bioinformatics method development. The group is specialized in combining advanced datamining techniques with biological principles. http://bioinformatics.psb.ugent.be/DBN/ and http://www.ugent.be/ea/idlab/en/members/kathleen-marchal.htm. *Interested?* To apply, forward a copy of your CV, a motivation letter and contact information for two references, to the following email address kathleen.marchal@ugent.be <mailto:kathleen.marchal@ugent.be> Application deadline: July 31, 2020 Tentative start date: October 2020 Duration: 4 years -- Prof. Kathleen Marchal Dept. of Plant Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Ghent University Dept. of Information Technology, IDLab, imec, Dept. of Genetics, University of Pretoria, South Africa http://bioinformatics.psb.ugent.be/DBN iGent Toren, Technologiepark 126, 9052 Gent, Belgium
