There are a lot of things you can do with ESTs, finding genomic homology isn't one of them. If he really wants to do something with ESTs and genomic homology. Find the orthologs in PLAZA using the BLAST interface and check out if they are block duplicates or anchorpoints with other organisms. I guess it's pretty much depending on the phylogenetic distance of the organisms wheter or not this is useful or not. But I guess if two rice genes are block duplicates it's quite possible that their orthologs in eg brachypodium are colinear as well. Seb
