Hieronder vind u wat algemene informatie over de organisatie van de VIB Science Club Meetings: The budget for each science club is 5.000 €. This is sufficient to cover the catering (1000-1500 € for 75-100 persons) and travel/hotel for 3-4 European guest speakers. VIB-HQ reimburses/organizes the speaker’s travel/hotel costs and pays a €200 speaker fee. VIB-HQ also arranges the logistic support (venue reservation, organization breaks/lunch, registrations,....) for science clubs similar to the VIB seminar. The workload for the organizing committee is kept to a minimum (inviting an international speaker, selecting abstracts for an oral presentation, chairing sessions at the meeting). Science Clubs alternate between two venues: Schell seminar room in FSVM-Building, Ghent, and Provinciehuis Leuven. Just like the other Science clubs, the goal would be to have a Science Club Systems and Synthetic Biology as a yearly event which gathers around 100 persons (so, sufficiently broad in interest). It is easiest for me to work with an organizing committee of 3 persons from different departments. The organizing committee can invite 3-4 European top speakers in the field (boils down to 1 international speaker per organizer). Before inviting speakers, suggested names are shared with the entire organizing committee and myself. This is to get speakers whose talks are interesting for several research groups from different departments. In addition to the invited speakers, the rest of the program is allocated to VIB speakers (Some abstracts can be selected for an oral presentation, while some other talks can be given by VIB group leaders or postdocs). Note that the Science Club meetings are closed, VIB-only meetings to stimulate institutional integration and sharing of unpublished results. Once a Science Club is running well, it can be expanded with a Lecture program open to everybody (e.g. similar to the Harvey Society Lectures), whereby also non-European speakers can be invited [we are at this stage now for science clubs which have been going for a couple of years]. The old directory will be available for a while (read-only) under /group/biocomp/archive/sysbiol For windows users, you can map the share as a new drive by using the path \\nas1.psb.ugent.be\sysbiol For Linux users, you can browse the new share in Nautilus or Konqueror using smb://nas1.psb.ugent.be/sysbiol For subversion users (svn), you will need to checkout the source code from the new location.
