So, Stephen & me are going to try out Dommel for our internet...
Have a look at : http://www.dommel.com/en/adsl/netconnect.php?cust=home --> 29€ for which you should get :
* 0€ activation * 12 mbps max d/l speed (this is a maximum value, not a garantueed one, as always I suppose) * 200 gb d/l each month, with a 50% ratio between 1am and 1pm --> maximum 400 gb. * .be domain * and the coolest thing, click on "add-on features" : "boost pack : experience an unlimited (so no fup, as used by other isp's, but really unlimited) download, 4 simultanious pppoe passthrough sessions allowed : 6,00 euro/month and 9,95 euro activation fee"
Taking the phone line for 5€, assuming you don't have one, you end up with 29+5+6 = 40€ if you want unlimited d/l, or 34€ for 200-400 gb, and 0+10 = 10€ activation.
Too good to be true? I'll let you know...
Sounds great. Apparently very similar but slightly cheaper than the EDPnet I'm now using.
To compare:
-12 Mbps is indeed the maximum speed you can get with ADSL, unless you live really close to central (<1km). To compare: only with cable (Telenet) you can get up to 15 Mbps. I've read promises about a technical upper limit of 24Mbps, but living within a range of 1km to the central at Sint Pieters station, I think that's exaggerated.
-200 GB ... damn, I'm 'only' getting 100 (but for now, even when downloading much, not getting there yet). Same night fee applies.
We plan to start of with the 200 gb and see whether we ever reach the limit and get irritated. If so, we might go for the unlimited one :)
-phone line for 5 EUR: are you getting this one from Bommel itself? I had a look around and I have to pay 13 EUR/month for the raw copper when ordering it from EDPnet itself, which I choose to just get one simple bill. Skynet (Belgacom) does it slightly cheaper (11 EUR/month)... and in the end EDPnet just sends someone from Belgacom to enable your line. So a line for 5 EUR seems really cheap.
From the site : "no belgacom fixed line? promo now only *5,00* euro/month extra during the first 12 months (instead of 13,31 euro)" So yes, we are getting this from Bommel, we don't want or need a phone line from Belgacom. Make note that most of the prices are for the first 12 months only, but hey...
-Included is also a .be domain and unlimited mailboxes (according to fair use policy and plus 1 GB web storage). No activation cost if you have a 'friend' who makes you customer, 20 EUR if you don't have friends.
So for EDPnet, I'm paying 42 EUR/month: 29 EUR for the subscription, 13 for the raw copper line.
Seeing that these specs are rather close to the ones you describe, I don't think it's too good to be true. I'm only surprised about the phone line price, so that might be worth a switch for me if things haven't changed next year.
Enjoy, and start downloading,
I will, thanks! ;-)
