If I type yum search tetex I get nothing but this:
*Note* Red Hat Network repositories are not listed below. You must run this command as root to access RHN repositories. RHN support will be disabled.
No other results... Seems IT needs to give me root access, no?
Apparently you have sudo rights on yum... to know for sure, enter 'sudo -l' ... it'll list your permissions. So if the thing wants you to run it as root, then do so ... do "sudo yum list tetex" ... or "sudo yum list *tex*" in case RedHat uses other Tex packages... If this doesn't work, ask IT... T.

Hmm. Typing pdflatex on the commandline returns 'command not found'. I remember I just typed 'yum search latex' and then 'sudo yum install texmaker.i386'. That gives me a nice editor but probably not the environment. As I have no root access, I can't use the nice Add/Remove software button on my pc. Maybe I should bug them with it. Or do you think I can do it with my sudo-rights?
If you could install texmaker, you can install latex as well.
On my Fedora machine, I apparently have these packages:
tetex.i386 tetex-dvips.i386 tetex-fonts.i386 tetex-latex.i386 texinfo.i386 texinfo-tex.i386
probable just "sudo yum install tetex" will install the stuff you need.
And I like using Kile (KDE tex-editor) as editor.

did you install the tex-environment itself (latex, pdftext, etc... executables) ? Or perhaps you need to change the location of the tex-directory in some configuration file of that tex-editor.
Or maybe you have to tell your editor which command to execute when hitting the button? Preferably 'pdflatex'... maybe with some parameters.
Start by just typing 'pdflatex' on your commandline to see if it's installed and in your path.

Smoking is bad for you, my friend. But you're welcome to sell it on eBay and buy a computer game for me with the money.
