Maybe someone should try to find out the licence plate of the van that picks up these bikes and report it to the police:

I think there's even a website for anonymous posting of offences: https://policeonweb.belgium.be
Might be taking it a tad to far, no? Even Ghent City has it's own bike vans. They attach labels to old or abandoned looking bikes when they first pass by. When they find bikes with a label that hasn't been removed in a few weeks, they take them away as well. Hassle: yes. Theft: maybe, not really, you get it back. Useful: yes. Too many student's abandon their bike, leaving the carcass rotting in the street for months. So I wouldn't report a yellow UGent van rounding up yellow UGent bikes. T.

Have you asked David (or somebody else) from VIB whether they can do this on VIB property? Just wondering: is it UGent territory as well?
I'm highly doubting this is legal. Fine, it's their bike, but that doesn't mean they can take it whenever... it's the same with my studio, it's not mine, but that doesn't give my landlady the right to come inside whenever she wants... Concerning this: apparently on the Korenmarkt (right opposite the MacDonald's) there is a 'legal store', where you can get free legal advise, printouts of the rent law to bug your landlady with, etc...
Here the law is very precise that she can't access your house while you're renting it.
Is there something about this in your contract?
I haven't read it, but I've been told that they state these kind of 'security rules' rather clearly.
But Seppe still has the right to go piss in their letter box. T.

Appearantly these guys can just drive into the underground parking-lot an grab some bikes. As there are no means to attach it it's completely pointless to use the second lock anyway.
This means working from home on Monday to pick it up, what is a lot less productive then working from the VIB. Guess that will "cost" the UGent more then what their charging me. Well done!

Beste,
