For those who want to get the most out of their mouse you can try something like this : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/39 . I used to use this for several things and once you get the hang of it it's quite nice. But since I started using touchpads on laptops rather often I stopped using it.

PS. scrolling through tabs doesn't seem to work here though :(

You must be so proud. Scrolling on a taskbar does it too (or on a 
desktop if you have more than one).

You know that CTRL-TAB and ALT-TAB do the same thing, so you save on a 
hand movement?
