Well, I've no idea how good the actual game is. But I know Stephen went almost crazy last night, trying to install it for hours, while that guy almost never loses his nerves :D Look at this : http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV-Pc/dp/B001BNFQKO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1228393816&sr=8-2 --> look at the rating! Apparently, you need some damn good specs to be able to play this game.. "GTA IV brings my dual core 3ghz to its knees and then some" We'll definitely have to ask IT for new computers for the lanparty. Sofie Michiel Van Bel wrote:

wow, what surprises me even more is that on amazon the platform indication is this: *Platform: **PC (Windows 98 / 2000 / XP / Me) *:s :s Is anybody still running 98/ME? for other games on amazon, the indication is correct (xp/vista), so i'm wondering a bit whether or not i should try to install the game on win98 just for the kicks of it :p Sofie Van Landeghem wrote:

Think he should, as besides the game, he now also installed Securom on his PC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Securom Only removable by a nice format C: or by following an online tutorial for which you need at least a master degree in informatics. I should check, but I believe my Windows installation is infected with it as well (by installing the Spore Creature Creator a while ago). T.

So they keep making it worse... I can't believe you now need a MS Live account to play a game. This kind of things is why I didn't buy Spore... as it was said to exaggerate on the DRM front... apparently GTA IV takes it to a next level. At this moment, I'm sticking to smaller, more sympathetic games. The copy protection on World of Goo was: "We are trying an experiment: World of Goo has absolutely no copy protection or DRM at all, since we want to give you (and everyone) the best experience we can. Thanks for not distributing this, and helping us make this possible!" According to their recent calculations and estimations, using actual DRM would have made no difference at all on number of sales. So again, the only people who are victim here, are the people who actually buy games... as I'm rather sure that a pirated copy doesn't force you to take a MS Live account... Am I reading to much /. ? BTW. Buying games through Steam is one of the better solutions now. Click, pay, download, play... although some manufacturers now start implementing their own DRM ON TOP OF that of Steam... I also had a lot of fun with the Penny Arcade games (that actually have native Linux versions as well). *sigh* T. -- ================================================================== Thomas Van Parys Tel:+32 (0)9 331 36 95 fax:+32 (0)9 3313809 VIB Department of Plant Systems Biology, Ghent University Technologiepark 927, 9052 Gent, BELGIUM thomas.vanparys@psb.ugent.be http://bioinformatics.psb.ugent.be ==================================================================
