[Binari] Teen cheered to Death in the UK

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,24430462-401,00.html Yesterday as 17-year-old Shaun Dykes prepared to jump from the top of a multi-storey carpark in Derby, northern England, spectators allegedly shouted to him: "How far can you bounce?" Then after Mr Dykes lay in a crumpled heap on the pavement the same hecklers rushed out from behind the police cordon to take photos of the body.

You know, this would be an excellent time to prove again my "What the hell is wrong with you"-level by making inappropriate comments, so I'm not gonna do it. I'm gonna behave. Michiel PS: But seriously... did he bounce or not? Kenny Billiau wrote:

I believe it's more something like a 'THUD' and then nothing. But seriously, I hope those cheering kids encounter some bullies larger than them and take a serious beating. What the hell is wrong with them? T.

As they are stating it was 'crumpled heap' I'm betting no. Crumple: to press or crush into irregular folds or into a compact mass; bend out of shape; rumple; wrinkle. To give way suddenly; collapse. So that's anything but bouncing. On Mon, 6 Oct 2008, Michiel Van Bel wrote:

So that's anything but bouncing. Nobody else thinking of the hilarious homer simpson quote "she only bounced once!" when dropping Maggie? Ah, never mind.

PS: But seriously... did he bounce or not? Usually it is more a spraying and definitely not bouncing. You know this videos of water-melons they use to demonstrate how useful helmets are?
A friend of mine used to live in the neighborhood of a suicide bridge. Not funny at all!

*sigh* I knew this not so funny joke would not be appreciated. However, very near (like 100m) from my house is a biking-road next to a railroad (in the middle of mais fields). There is about 1 suicide there every 2 months as well (on average). So when I was biking to and from school (from Belsele to Sint-Niklaas), I've seen my fair share of police/ambulances/dead bodies as well. At the moment it's not really funny, but you should laugh about it afterwards (a bit). Otherwise life is just a little too tragic :) Michiel -- ================================================================== Michiel Van Bel PhD student Tel:+32 (0)9 331 36 95 fax:+32 (0)9 3313809 VIB Department of Plant Systems Biology, Ghent University Technologiepark 927, 9052 Gent, BELGIUM mibel@psb.ugent.be http://www.psb.ugent.be ==================================================================
