And some whisper that Windows 7 isn't as bad as the commercials. Take Vista without the cluster needed to power your desktop. Vista is pretty decent on most hardware, just don't try to run it on a Pentium II. I'm running it on two laptops, preinstalled and too lazy to remove it. Either way, battery lasts anything between 3-4 hours when I'm using it for real. Only 2 hours when doing cpu intensive things (like playing games). So either I'm running around with a cluster and giant ups or maybe it isn't as bad as some people claim. Vista had a bad start, but improved vastly with the updates. I don't think it's as bad as you may think from reading slashdot. -Thomas

Ok, I'll take the word of an actual user :-) My experiences are as little as doing some installations on the laptop of Vero and the new pc of her parents and it just doesn't feel as snappy as a brand new pc should. Of course I've never spent as much time tweaking and testing Vista as I do for my current laptop or used to do for Windows XP. But you'll have to admit that all of their recent advertisements have a rather creepy feeling about them :-) T. -- ================================================================== Thomas Van Parys Tel:+32 (0)9 331 36 95 fax:+32 (0)9 3313809 VIB Department of Plant Systems Biology, Ghent University Technologiepark 927, 9052 Gent, BELGIUM thomas.vanparys@psb.vib-ugent.be http://bioinformatics.psb.ugent.be ==================================================================
