[Confocal] Olympus argon laser

Dear all, The argon laser of the olympus ignited again, but the output of the 488, 458 and 515nm laser lines is down to about 15%. You therefore will have to use more laser power to image and you will not be able to compare the signal with previous experiments. [Confocal] electricity failure

Dear all, This morning at 7.15h, somebody switched off the electricity in part of the building. Unfortunately, this shut down the olympus confocal (and the experiment running). The Zeiss510 was not working and luckily the power in the other confocal room remained on. As the Olympus argon laser was not cooled anymore, it is likely that it will no longer work (it was already not working fine and this power failure will definitely not help). I will try to ignite it again this morning after it has cooled down completely, but please take into account for your current experiments that the laser output (if it will fire again) will be very weak. Dear all, I finally got news from Olympus regarding the repair of the 635nm and argon lasers. They will service the microscope on the 10th and 11th of July. Afterwards, the system should again run normally. [Confocal] Olympus lasers

Dear all, The output of the argon laser on Olympus is down to 20%. This means that it has reached its end phase and it will probably not last much longer. Please be aware that you will need to use substantially more laser % when imaging with this laser as the output is down. Also, all other lasers do not need to be left on when you finish, it is only the argon laser which is giving problems igniting which is why we leave it on for the time being. the diode lasers should be turned off whenever not used. I will try to get this laser replaced as soon as possible. [Confocal] olympus argon laser

Dear all, We are again experiencing problems with the argon laser of the Olympus confocal as it does not ignite properly. Currently, the laser is working and you can use it. Problem is that currently the laser requires several hours to ignite and therefore, we have decided to keep it running continuously for the coming days until we have a solution for this. So please leave the argon laser on until further notice, even if you do not need it for your confocal session. [Confocal] To all LSM710 users

Dear colleagues, As you may have seen there is a notice next to the laser control panel of the LSM710 to keep the indicator between the first and second stripe (figure attached). The reason for this is that the LED's in the control panel no longer give a correct reading of the current (relates to the usage time of the laser). The maximal current lies now halfway between the first and second line (formerly it was the transition from green LED to red LED). To preserve the lifetime of the laser it is advised to not increase the current beyond this point as the laser becomes unstable and its lifetime is further reduced. Since this is not a very exact indication so try to be conservative when increasing the current. Thank you for your cooperation.
