[Confocal] spinning disc 100x objective maltreatment

Dear confocal users, The 100x objective of our spinning disc is broken, there is immersion oil inside the objective. We currently have a demo lens from Nikon which allows us to keep working while they are checking the cost to repair our objective. Oil inside the objective can only be caused by using too much immersion oil which has ran down the body of the lens and in between the body and the retractive top part. There is no alternative way to explain this than malpractice and this should not happen. The objectives are one of the most expensive parts of any microscope and anything abnormal should be reported to Evelien or me instantly. We will take measures to better protect the objectives, and at least from now on, everyone using this 100x objective should clean the lens with a soft tissue and lens paper whenever you change the sample. Also, when you are finished, the 100x objective should be cleaned with the lens cleaning solution (on a soft tissue followed by lens cleaning paper). [Confocal] Zeiss710 sensitivity issue

Dear all, I would like to remind everyone who uses the confocals to subscribe to the confocal mailing list (you can do this easily via intranet). Otherwise, you might miss future mails concerning the confocals (now I have included research, but this should be avoided to reduce spamming people who this does not concern). The Zeiss710 currently has a sensitivity issue as the amount of laser power required to image is abnormally high (40%). I have contacted Zeiss and will let you know when it will be solved. In the meantime, do take into account that you might need to use more laser power to image and that this will likely cause bleaching of your sample. Also, the epifluorescence light bulb has exceeded its life time and I will replace it. In the future, it would be nice however that when you notice this (old bulb flashing on the controller), to notify me or Evelien. [Confocal] scalebar issues with images from zeiss710

Dear confocal users, There is an issue with adding scalebars to the images taken recently with the Zeiss710. For old images, scalebars can be added using the zen light (zen black) software present in network programs, but for recent images, this does not work for some unknown reason. In case you encounter problems, you can add scalebars using the Zen Blue software. We have asked IT to add this to the network programs list.
