Plant immunity relies on both cell-surface and intracellular immune receptors. In particular, receptor kinases act as pattern recognition receptors that sense microbial and host-derived molecular patterns. Part of this first-line immune response involves the dynamic production of immuno-modulatory secreted signaling peptides, termed phytocytokines. I will present our recent work on phytocytokines, their perception mechanisms, and their potential functions as both regulators and executioners of plant immunity.
