Trehalose 6-phosphate (T6P) is a key signalling molecule that links sucrose availability to plant growth and development. As a central component of plant energy management, the T6P pathway integrates metabolic status with environmental and endogenous cues to control major developmental transitions, including vegetative and reproductive phase changes and tuber formation. I will present recent insights from my group alongside future perspectives on T6P pathway function, highlighting its role in coordinating diverse plant developmental programs across model and crop species. I will also discuss emerging mechanistic evidence for a putative sucrose-sensing complex involving FANTASTIC FOUR proteins.
