*International Chemical Discovery and Design Course*
June 18th-22nd 2012, the Computational Drug Discovery (CDD) Group of
the Radboud University Nijmegen organizes a course about Chemical Design
and Discovery, in cooperation with NBIC and the Netherlands eScience Center.
This course covers the recent advances in discovery informatics, with a
focus on the application of e-science to real life problems. Different
scientific concepts and programs will be introduced and discussed, which
are part of the modern drug, food supplement and ingredient discovery
pipeline from target discovery & validation to lead discovery &
optimization.
The morning sessions will introduce key concepts related to the use of
computers for chemical discovery in the pharmaceutical industry and
other life science pursuits and will be of general interest to anybody
in these or other chemistry fields.
For the first time we were able to invite keynote speakers from the
Netherlands and abroad. As experts in their field of research they will
summarize the core message of the course in their presentations.
The following speakers have accepted their invitation to give a keynote
lecture:
·Dr. John Overington, Computational Chemical Biology, EMBL-EBI, Hinxton, UK
·Prof. Dr. Hugo Kubinyi, Former Head of Drug Design &Combinatorial
Chemistry and Molecular Modelling, BASF AG, Ludwigshafen, Germany
·Dr. Ir. Fred van de Velde, NIZO food research BV, The Netherlands
·Prof. Dr. Peter Murray-Rust, Unilever Centre for Molecular Science
Informatics, University of Cambridge, UK
In the afternoon the hand-ons are targeted at fourth-year university
students, PhD students and postdocs, that are interested in the field of
computational target and drug discovery. A basic background in
bioinformatics or computational chemistry is a prerequisite for attendance.
For people only interested in the lectures and not in the hands-on
sessions it is also possible to follow (individual) keynote lectures
(free of charge).
