Dear all,

We are looking for an enthusiastic PhD candidate on a project titled "Next-generation optical mapping for high-throughput genotyping". This STW project is a collaboration with Plant Research International in Wageningen, who own a BioNano Genomics Irys optical mapping system, and several plant breeding and plant biotechnology companies. The aim of the project is to develop new algorithms for analyzing high-throughput optical mapping data, for de novo genome assembly and resequencing purposes. The objectives are to combine NGS and optical mapping data to obtain high-quality assemblies of complex genomes, including those of polyploid organisms, and to develop optical mapping into a cost-effective genotyping platform by allowing multiplexing and population-scale detection of structural variation.

We are looking for an ambitious PhD candidate with an MSc degree in bioinformatics or computer science (with a demonstrable affinity for biology). We are specifically seeking candidates with a strong background in algorithm development, preferably in NGS data analysis or signal processing, and demonstrable skills in mathematics and statistics. You will be based in Wageningen, and work in close cooperation with other PhD candidates and researchers in Wageningen and in industry.

Additional information about the position can be found at http://tinyurl.com/nbdlju4. Interested candidates can apply up to January 1, 2016 through this website.

Best regards,

prof. Dick de Ridder
