Doctoral Grant biomolecular data mining

The biodata mining team (ADReM / biomina) aims to remove important limitations in the interpretation of big molecular data with cutting-edge data mining technologies. In this project we will study new pattern-mining algorithms to incorporate contextual biomolecular information in approaches to discover patterns that are novel, interesting and unexpected.

Job description
• You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of biomolecular data mining.
• You publish scientific articles related to the research project of the assignment.
• You contribute to teaching and research in biomedical data mining and bioinformatics in the Faculties of Sciences and Biomedicine.

Profile and requirements
• You hold a master degree in computer science, mathematics, (bio)statistics, bioinformatics; or life sciences (if you are computationally strong).
• You can submit outstanding academic results.
• Students in the final year of their degree can also apply.
• Foreign candidates are encouraged to apply.
• Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.
• You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.
• You have strong programming, data analysis and computational skills: data mining, machine learning, univariate/multivariate/bayesian statistics, …. You are interested in complex life science challenges. Knowledge of molecular biology or bioinformatics is useful but not necessary. You are enthusiastic about multi-disciplinary collaborations and eager to think outside the box. You have excellent (English) communication skills.

We offer
• a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a further two-year period after positive evaluation;
