[Confocal] Zeiss 710: argon laser doesn't not always switch on - if on, do NOT switch off!

Dear confocal users, The argon laser of Zeiss 710 has problems to switch on. As the laser has almost 7000 working hours, I think this is the beginning of the end for this laser. Monday there was a similar problem, but on Tuesday, when the technician of Zeiss was here, the switching on was fine. Today again there was a problem with switching on. The first sign of degradation is often problem with switching on. I can only advice to try several times to get it on, either by restarting up completely. Or, and I think this could be more more helpfull, by switching the system on, leave it on and hoping that the laser will go on after a while. If someone succeeds in getting the laser on, please DO NOT SWITCH OFF!!! (even for the weekend!) It can be left on till replacement will be done. The company will be contacted for the installation of a new laser. [Confocal] tidiness of confocal rooms

Dear all, I would like to request you to keep the confocal rooms clean as they are now . All material you take in, should be taken out. The only things that are now on the bench are slides, coverslides, scalpels, gloves and tissues. All other stuff should not stay in the room. All confocal rooms had a proper cleaning and all superfluous stuff has been removed. The benches are now clean and free to prepare your samples. (see ppt in attach). With this fresh clean start, I think it should be realistic to keep it clean. It would be very nice if you would all contribute to this. The rooms will be regularly checked and people will be addressed if they leave stuff in the room. This will be done by the PhD helpers and room responsibles for the corresponding rooms. Dear confocal users, Although it was planned to have the maintenance of the Zeiss 710 yesterday and today, I'm not really sure it this will happen today. As yesterday it has been standing there the whole day, I would propose to use it. The best for experiments that can be stopped (so not long time experiments). In case the technician will come, than the microsocpe will be used for that. [Confocal] Spinning disc: FRAP unit working again

Dear spinning disc users, The photokinesis unit to perform FRAP, that was out since a long time, (but not limiting the normal use of the spinning disc), has been repaired. It took ages.... a lot of emails... a lot of waiting... But at the end, fixed! Have fun.
