Hi all, As you have noticed, I've created a mailinglist including all people that were at the meeting this morning. I quickly needed a temp name for this list, and I liked the idea of Rob about the little type of swan, but apparently I was quite wrong about the spelling (it's cygnet). Anyway, there already are companies that use this name (eg. http://www.cygnetuk.com/) and we can change the list's name later on. So for now, mailing can be done to signet@psb.vib-ugent.be The wiki page, for those that haven't found it yet, is at https://psbsvn01.psb.ugent.be/trac/modnet As the website is reachable from outside the building since yesterday, I've now closed up the wiki pages. Current policy is that anyone with a PSB login can access the wiki pages, so we can still use it internally to show information to non-developers. Source code is only accessible for the developers. regards, Thomas -- ================================================================== Thomas Van Parys Tel:+32 (0)9 331 36 95 fax:+32 (0)9 3313809 VIB Department of Plant Systems Biology, Ghent University Technologiepark 927, 9052 Gent, BELGIUM thomas.vanparys@psb.vib-ugent.be http://bioinformatics.psb.ugent.be ==================================================================

Dear all, This is to simply summarize what we have discussed this morning and some follow-up points, feel free to input more. - Rob used 'VIB-PSB.pptx' (pls see attachment) to give an idea/update to the academic team on our 'new org'/spinout. The main point is that there should be a close communication link and feedback loop between the academic team and the 'new org'. - Workflow will be used to make it successful and be useful for any group. And software tools should be modularized. The workflow will be kept by the 'new org' as its IP and the modules could be published. 'new org' could offer service/consultancy using the workflow. Follow-up: Galaxy and Taverna workflow systems will be looked into by Bram; Thomas will look at the modules. - Company contacts and progress a) CropDesign: they are always interested, but not yet has been convinced enough to use it or they don't know how exactly to use it. Follow-up: use more success cases/publication/validation to convince them; use the patented list of regulators that are also validated in the lab (in a year's time) to convince them hands-on practice to convince them (to show them how it works, how to look at the results), xiren is going to do this with Karin on Tuesday 6th July b) Johnson & Johnson, one year ago was very interested and almost gave their data for us to analyze, but the progress stuck on the NDA for long. Follow-up: Yves should check with J&J's NDA person or check with Barbara how to proceed c) Bayer: Steven is writing an IWT project together with Frank van Breusegem and Bayer on finding regulators under abiotic stress using Lemone and Enigma. If this project goes on well, Bayer will learn more about the power of the tools and may come to us for more applications. d) Janssen Pharmaceuticals? what other possible clients? phama companies? - 'new org' related email-list for 'new org' made by Thomas.signet@psb.vib-ugent.be We need still to brainstorm the naming. The discussion forum is put under: https://psbsvn01.psb.ugent.be/trac/modnet/wiki/NewOrgRelated , Now the names: SigNet (Rob); SoluSys (Eric); ExpressData (xiren); 3xExp(xiren) what else?? Follow-up: Everybody, please input whatever suitable names you can think of; comment on the flyer. xiren will just choose a template and make a draft webpage with Marijn. Next SigNet meeting will be beginning of Sept. regards, Xin-Ying

Nice summary Xin-ying ! Thanks for doing that. Lets make sure all the info on possible clients and naming etc gets on to TRAC so we can keep an eye on things and ensure the right people get followed up and emailed as we create more publicity materials. Looks like SigNet isn't a viable name for a company, Well it was only an idea anyway :-) Believe others are in discussion but I think we need more, Something with an Informatics feel so people know what we are doing without needing to ask (A mistake I made with my company name !!) Lets keep things flowing through this distribution list. We obviously need to move forward on the web site and name, but lets not rush into something we regret later, we still have time. More importantly, a decision on template for the site would be good so we can start building that up. Seen thoughts from Bram, but nobody else as yet Rob. -----Original Message----- From: signet-bounces@psb.vib-ugent.be [mailto:signet-bounces@psb.vib-ugent.be] On Behalf Of Xin-Ying Ren Sent: 02 July 2010 13:43 To: signet@psb.vib-ugent.be Subject: Re: [Signet] summary of the TC this morning & follow-ups, with attachment Xin-Ying Ren wrote:
