The RB&AB/MAD has a long-standing expertise in advanced transcriptomics analysis. Next to the well-established microarray technology, we have our own next-generation sequencing platform (IonProton). Also the required ICT infrastructure and bioinformatics environment has been set-up. With an enthusiastic multidisciplinary team of 17 specialists we aim to understand transcriptome dynamics plus the role of RNA as a carrier of genetic information. As such, we have a keen interest in so-called ‘non-coding RNA’, ‘maternal RNA’, and ‘cell-free RNA’. In the Green Student Lab we educate students in collaboration with plant-breeding companies on their genomics and bioinformatics projects. In the context of this challenging combination of research and education, we are seeking a Post-doc RNA Biology. *Project Description * The RB&AB/MAD offers a unique starting point for an exciting mixture of established and innovative genomics experimentation and RNA biology research for both our own research and that of students. The experiments concern fundamental transcriptome research on for instance the role of maternal RNA in (Zebrafish) embryogenesis, or transmission of genetic information via cell-free RNA in plant sap. The applied research independently done by students of the Green Student Lab is primarily based on project ideas from associated plant-breeding companies. The post-doc will play a key role in the RB&AB RNA biology research and supervision of the Green Student Lab. Dear all, There is an exciting position vacant for a postdoc in bacteria genomics and metagenomics at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp: Postdoctoral scientist in bacteria genomics Department of Biomedical Sciences - Unit of Diagnostic Bacteriology The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) is internationally recognized as a center of excellence for education, research and service delivery in the field of tropical medicine. The Unit of Diagnostic Bacteriology at the Department of Biomedical Sciences is developing and validating innovative diagnostic tests for tropical bacterial infections. We recently launched several new projects in which we use metagenomics and genomics to identify and study pathogens in clinical samples. To support these activities and to develop new projects, we are looking for a postdoctoral scientist in genomics data analysis. Assignment: * Coordinate the bioinformatics activities at the Diagnostic Bacteriology Unit. * Develop and validate a metagenomics approach to identify bacteria in clinical samples. * Develop the data analysis for a study on whole genome sequencing of Salmonella isolates. * Assist in the data analysis of genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics projects in the unit. * Develop your own research lines and apply for competitive grants. * Coach MSc and PhD students. Profile: * You have a Master degree in biology, bioengineering or bioinformatics (or equivalent) and a PhD degree in sciences, preferably in the field of genomics or metagenomics. * You have strong skills in bioinformatic analysis of whole genome sequence data. * Additional skills in the analysis of transcriptomics and proteomics data are an asset. * Additional skills in bacteriology and molecular biology are an asset. * You have excellent knowledge of English. * You have proven that you can work in a multi-disciplinary context and lead research lines. This project is part of HAPAR French ANR (Head L. Guillou), in collaboration with the ABiMS platform (Analysis and Bioinformatics for Marine Science) and the University of Ghent (P. Rouzé/S. Rombauts) The Roscoff Marine Station provides to the scientific community a bioinformatics platform, ABiMS, in which the research will be conducted. The Ghent site on its side provides the ORCAE genome curation platform that will be used during the project. He / she will interact and move over long periods (several months) on the Ghent university site during half of his contract. The engineer will be located in Roscoff (with trips on Ghent). The engineer will be in charge of the genome and RNAseq data analyse. He will initially seek transposable elements in the genome in collaboration with the University of Ghent, using different strategies developed by the VIB team. Required Skills - Good experience of eukaryote genome annotation (structural and functional analysis, Transposable element) - Strong knowledge of NGS analysis tools and methods, and particularly in RNAseq analysis - Good knowledge of phylogeny - Good knowledge of statistical analysis - Advanced knowledge of scripting languages (Perl, Python,…) - Basic knowledge of Linux and Unix - Global knowledge in genetics and molecular biology - Rigour, autonomy and excellent relational and teamwork skills Limited term contract with funding available for 30 months, and available immediately.
