Plant biologists and geneticists with an interest in bioinformatics and data analysis are encouraged to attend this training. After this workshop, you will have a good understanding of the organization of plant genomes, the evolution of plant gene families and the different systems used to describe gene functions. In addition, you will know how to extract relevant biological information from -omics gene sets. Objectives • Introduction plant comparative genomics (genes and gene families) + introduction PLAZA platform • Functional characterization of plant genes (Gene families, GO, InterPro) • Synteny analysis in polyploid cereals • Gene set analysis for different plant -omics data sets: • Functional interpretation of RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq genes using the PLAZA Workbench • Comparing gene sets between different di/polyploidy crop species Required skills Basic knowledge of genes, genomes, transcript profiling, BLAST and homology (no programming skills are required). Contemporary methods are powered by fundamental algorithms and data structures, which are efficient and scale to large data sets. A thorough understanding of these algorithms and data structures is necessary for advanced users and developers in this area. In addition, understanding how comparative genomics is developing is important to shape your own research. In this course, we will cover genome analysis, variant analysis, and pangenomics. Core concepts, applications, and future trends will be discussed, with a focus on the algorithms and data structures underlying state-of-the-art methods. The course offers an engaging mix of lectures, paper discussions, hands-on tutorials, and a do-it-yourself project. *Target audience* The course is aimed at PhD students with a background in bioinformatics, computer science or a related field. In this event, we bring together all stakeholders of ELIXIR Belgium, showcase our achievements and plans for the future, as well as provide networking opportunities to meet the people involved. The session on Human Data will cover collaborative platforms in Belgium and access to human data across Europe . We will also showcase increased collaboration between research infrastructures in Flanders. The day will be closed with a keynote on Human Cell Atlas . Dear all, Please find attached a three-year postdoc opportunity at the Institute of Molecular Bioscience, at the University of Queensland, Australia. *Primary Purpose of the Position* The main aim of this position is to develop state-of-the-art multi-omics approaches to generate new and unprecedented insights into the pathology of central nervous system (CNS) injury and disease.
