MIC is the main event focusing on the progress of the area of metaheuristics and their applications. As in previous editions, MIC'2015 will provide an opportunity to the international research community in metaheuristics to discuss recent research results, to develop new ideas and collaborations, and to meet old friends and make new ones in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. MIC'2015 welcomes presentations that cover any aspects of metaheuristic research such as new algorithmic developments, high-impact applications, new research challenges, theoretical developments, implementation issues, and in-depth experimental studies. MIC'2015 strives for a high-quality program that will be completed by a number of invited talks, tutorials, workshops and special sessions. Relevant Research Areas ======================= MIC'2015 solicits contributions dealing with any aspect of metaheuristics. Typical, but not exclusive, topics of interest are: + Metaheuristic techniques such as tabu search, simulated annealing, iterated local search, variable neighborhood search, memory-based optimization, dynamic local search, evolutionary algorithms, memetic algorithms, ant colony optimization, variable neighborhood search, particle swarm optimization, scatter search, path relinking, etc. + Techniques that enhance the usability and increase the potential of metaheuristic algorithms such as reactive search mechanisms for self-tuning, offline metaheuristic algorithm configuration techniques, algorithm portfolios, parallelization of metaheuristic algorithms, etc. + Empirical and theoretical research in metaheuristics including large-scale experimental analyses, algorithm comparisons, new experimental methodologies, engineering methodologies for metaheuristic algorithms, search space analysis, theoretical insights into properties of metaheuristic algorithms, etc. + High-impact applications of metaheuristics in fields such as bioinformatics, electrical and mechanical engineering, telecommunications, sustainability, business, scheduling and timetabling. Particularly welcome are innovative applications of metaheuristic algorithms that have a potential of pushing research frontiers. + Contributions on the combination of metaheuristic techniques with those from other areas, such as integer programming, constraint programming, machine learning, etc. + Challenging applications areas such as continuous, mixed discrete-continuous, multi-objective, stochastic, or dynamic problems. S1) Original research contributions for publication in the conference proceedings of a maximum of 10 pages S2) Extended abstracts of work-in-progress and position papers on an important research aspect of a maximum of 3 pages S3) High-quality manuscripts that have recently, within the last year, been submitted or accepted for journal publication Accepted contributions of categories S1 and S2 will be published in the MIC'2015 conference proceedings. Accepted contributions of category S3 will be orally presented at the conference, but not be included into the conference proceedings. Participants will be invited to submit extended versions of their work for consideration. Best Paper Award ================= A best paper award will be presented at the conference. Vacature Systeembeheerder / Software Engineer (36 uur) klinische genetica VUmc Beheer en ontwikkeling van de soft- en hardware infrastructuur Link vacature: http://www.werkenbijvumc.nl/vacatures/D5.2014.00209FS/?Systeembeheerder+%2F… Werkomgeving De afdeling klinische genetica is verantwoordelijk voor de diagnostiek van patiëntmateriaal bij (mogelijke) genetische/erfelijke afwijkingen. Het is van belang dat de doorlooptijd van de diagnostiek zo kort mogelijk is, dus zoveel mogelijk processen binnen klinische genetica worden geautomatiseerd. Er wordt naast traditionele methoden gebruik gemaakt van Next Generation Sequencing dat veel 'big data' genereert. Voor alle processen op het lab is het belangrijk dat de diagnostiek geborgd wordt door een goede soft- en hardware infrastructuur, versiebeheer en onderhoud. Werkzaamheden Als Software Engineer/Systeembeheerder zijn je voornaamste taken en verantwoordelijkheden: - Optimaliseren van de diagnostische workflow (o.a. door te automatiseren); - Uitvoeren van periodieke checks en het genereren van statistieken; - Versiebeheer van zowel soft- als hardware; - Met behulp van IT de continuïteit van de diagnostiek waarborgen; - Beheren van de pc's die voor diagnostiek doeleinden gebruikt worden (bijv. robots). - Contact leggen en onderhouden met de afdeling ICT van Vumc. - Runnen en onderhouden van diagnostische pipelines - Programmeren van robots Je profiel Wij zoeken iemand met de volgende kennis en ervaring: - Afgeronde WO opleiding informatica of een afgeronde HBO opleiding informatica met relevante werkervaring; - Ervaring met het opzetten/onderhouden van een automatiserings pipeline; - Kennis van en ervaring met Python en bash in een Linux omgeving; - Ervaring met het werken met cluster computers is een pré; - Ervaring in de bioinformatica/genetica is niet nodig, interesse hierin is echter wenselijk; Daarnaast ben je initiatiefrijk, analytisch, stressbestendig en inventief. Onze arbeidsvoorwaarden Salarisschaal: 8 (min EUR 2.441 tot max EUR 3.704 o.b.v. 36 uur/week), inschaling afhankelijk van opleiding en ervaring. VIB is looking to expand its Institute-wide bio- and research informatics and training platform, BITS, with a research informatics scientist. You will be employed in the Bioinformatics Training and Service (BITS) facility of VIB whose mission is to provide research informatics resources and services to VIB and to promote education in bioinformatics. You will be responsible for the technical support for end users of VIB’s electronic lab notebook system and the delivery of on-site training sessions. You will also provide support to individual scientists to solve bio- and research informatics bottlenecks and problems. You will play a key role in setting up bioinformatics tools and infrastructure to enable processing, analysis, visualization and dissemination of integrated OMICS datasets. Profile You have a PhD Degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Bioinformatics or a related degree. Strong experience of electronic lab notebook systems, preferably E-Notebook, and Information management systems (document management, data repositories,…) is required. Strong experience with bioinformatics methods, databases, and managing larger data sets is required. A good working knowledge of Linux/Unix and programming languages such as Perl, SQL, R, Java, Python or C would be desirable. Working knowledge of basic principles of laboratory experiments using standard biological techniques (bioassays, instrumentation, animal experimentation,…) is desirable. Experience with training/teaching of students/end-users is beneficial. Working knowledge of computer technology (databases, client-server architectures, Windows, Mac, Linux operating systems, Citrix) is beneficial. Excellent knowledge of English, communication and teaching skills and the ability to interact proactively with research scientists and IT-personnel are essential requirements. How to apply? U zal instaan voor de ontwikkeling van webinterfaces voor de analyse van genetische data en het beheer van genetische data gegenereerd door onze sequencing faciliteit.
