Contemporary methods are powered by fundamental algorithms and data structures, which are efficient and scale to large data sets. A thorough understanding of these algorithms and data structures is necessary for advanced users and developers in this area. In addition, understanding how comparative genomics is developing is important to shape your own research. In this course, we will cover genome analysis, variant analysis, and pangenomics. Core concepts, applications, and future trends will be discussed, with a focus on the algorithms and data structures underlying state-of-the-art methods. The course offers an engaging mix of lectures, paper discussions, hands-on tutorials, and a do-it-yourself project. *Target audience* The course is aimed at PhD students with a background in bioinformatics, computer science or a related field. Participants are expected to have experience in command-line usage (Unix shell) and programming (Python), and have basic knowledge of genomics. *Learning outcomes* After having followed this course, the student has a good understanding of algorithms and data structures in comparative genomics, is able to implement algorithms in python, is able to read and understand method papers in bioinformatics in detail, and is able to work with state-of-the-art command-line tools for genomics. *Course credits* The study load of this course is 3 ECTS credits. Dear all, Please find attached a three-year postdoc opportunity at the Institute of Molecular Bioscience, at the University of Queensland, Australia. *Primary Purpose of the Position* The main aim of this position is to develop state-of-the-art multi-omics approaches to generate new and unprecedented insights into the pathology of central nervous system (CNS) injury and disease. Post-doc position in bioinformatics at ULB: Genes and gene networks analysis related to root morphological response to nitrogen supply in plants Lab. of Plant Physiology and Molecular Genetics, Université libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, BE Mineral nitrogen (N) is the quantitatively most important nutrient in cropping systems. However, a considerable N fraction is lost through runoffs with detrimental consequences for the environment and human health. Increasing the plant N uptake by optimizing the degree of root branching for exploring a larger soil volume in search of the mobile nitrate resource may contribute to limit soil leaching. Oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) is a major oil crop showing whose production highly dependents on N fertilization. The project aims at understanding the genetic control of root system architecture and how it is impacted by N nutrition. A measurable outcome will be to provide genetic markers for selecting new crop genotypes with positive root morphological features. Genomics Program of Myeloma Service: Postdoctoral Researcher Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is one of the world’s premier cancer centers, committed to exceptional patient care, leading-edge research, and superb educational programs. The blending of research with patient care is at the heart of everything we do. The institution is a comprehensive cancer center whose purposes are the treatment and control of cancer, the advancement of biomedical knowledge through laboratory and clinical research, and the training of scientists, physicians, and other health care workers. The Myeloma Service in the Division of Hematologic Malignancies, Department of Medicine, is seeking outstanding postdoctoral candidates with a background in computational biology, experience in next generation sequencing analysis and an interest in cancer genomics. The applicant will work within the Genomics Program of Myeloma Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). This position includes analyses of high-quality whole genome, targeted and RNA sequencing data from patients with multiple myeloma, to inform diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. The research will focus on cancer patients affected by multiple myeloma at the diagnosis, at relapse after novel therapies within clinical trials and patients with myeloma precursor entities (i.e. MGUS and smoldering myeloma) to identify the one that will progress and the one that will have a stable clinical course. The postdoctoral researcher will work within a team of researcher, including translational, clinical, and computational investigators working in cancer genomics and in its application into clinical practice. The Myeloma Service at MSK is a world-leader in early drug development and has a large clinical program which ensures access to samples and clinical data derived from the use of cutting-edge therapies. The main genomic aspects that we are currently investigating are the impact of mutational signatures, structural variants and rare drivers on myeloma pathogenesis and clinical outcome. Mentoring will be provided with strong focus on computational approaches, study design, and translational implications. Responsibilities Ensure generation and integration of high-quality genome and transcriptomic data from large cohort of patients Develop ideas and drive own independent research. Present findings in meetings and submit research for peer review and publication. Work independently and as a team member contributing towards collaborative research initiatives in the laboratory. Application Requirements Required Qualifications PhD in cancer biology Demonstrated experience in use of NGS datasets and related technologies. Proficient in either R (preferred) or Python. Good written and oral English communication skills.
